Trojans Power Past Hawks

Box Score MURFREESBORO, NC- The Chowan University women's soccer team dropped to 1-16 on the season on Monday afternoon after suffering a 7-0 setback to the Trojans of Mount Olive College.  The Trojans improve to 5-11-2 on the year after the victory.
 
The Hawks were outshot 34-4 on the contest.  Erica Jefferson and Erica Wagnon each tallied a shot on goal in the loss.  Tara Maready collected 10 saves in goal for Chowan.
 
Three minutes into the contest, Ellie Barnes used Alex Wetherholt's rebound to find the back of the net for the Trojans.  Mount Olive added to their lead in the 21st minute of play when Damilia Brooks scored an unassisted goal into the far post from the top of the box. 
 
Five minutes later, Wetherholt extended the Trojans' lead to 3-0 when she found the back of the net on a foul kick in the 26th minute of play.  In the 37th minute, Wetherholt added another score for Mount Olive with a rebound that she netted into the far post. 
 
With a 4-0 lead in the second half, Barnes and Jaclyn Thomas went to work for the Trojans as each scored unassisted goals within twenty seconds of each other.  Barnes added a seventh goal for Mount Olive and scored her third goal of the contest in the 75th minute to secure the 7-0 victory. 
 
The Hawks host Barton College on Wednesday afternoon.  The contest is slated for 1:00pm and six Chowan seniors will be honored prior to the contest.
