Box Score RICHMOND, VA- The Chowan University football team came up short in a CIAA Northern Division match-up against Virginia Union University on Saturday afternoon. The 24-14 loss moves the Hawks to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the league. The Panthers improve to 3-4 on the season and 3-1 against CIAA competition.
Robert Holland led all receivers in the contest with four catches for 81 yards and one touchdown in the loss.
Anthony Clanton had seven carries for 50 rushing yards. Eric Shaw led Virginia Union with 24 carries totaling 125 yards. Kenneth Graham completed 11-17 passes for 112 yards for two touchdowns.

DaKorion DeSamme led all players in the game with 18 total tackles (seven solo, 11 assisted) and one tackle for loss.
Chris Morris had a standout game for the Hawks as well with nine tackles (two solo, seven assisted), a pass break up, three tackles for loss, an interception and one sack.
Matt Lucas' punt was blocked on the 13-yard line in the first quarter, and Anthony Davis quickly recovered the ball for the Panthers in the end zone to give Virginia Union a 6-0 lead. Troy Krepich's point after attempt was good resulting in a 7-0 lead at the 9:18 mark.
Krepich extended the Panthers' lead to 10-0 with a 40 yard field goal with 2:22 remaining in the first quarter.
The Hawks responded with a six play, 57 yard scoring drive at the start of the second quarter.
DaSean Martin's five yard touchdown run inched the score to 14-6 with 14:17 remaining in the half.
Nick Hahula's point after attempt was good, making the score 14-7.
Virginia Union capped a nine play, 80 yard drive with Graham's two yard pass to Wyman Powell to extend the Panther's lead to 20-7. With five seconds on the clock, Krepich made good on the point after attempt to put Virginia Union ahead 21-7 at halftime.
The Hawks and Panthers exchanged downs to start the third quarter. With 10:03 remaining in the third quarter,
Ryan Simpson found Holland for a short one yard pass resulting in a Hawk touchdown. Hahula's point after attempt was good but the Hawks still trailed 17-14.
Virginia Union scored once more before the contest was over. Graham's 11 yard pass to Matias Parker extended the Panthers' lead to 23-14 and the point after attempt secured the 24-14 victory.
Chowan returns home for the first time in three weeks to host cross-town rival Elizabeth City State. The Homecoming match-up against the Vikings is scheduled for 3:00pm.
