Box Score MURFREESBORO - Chowan's
Talaya Lynch drained 23 points en route to a 64-50 win over Bowie State University on Saturday afternoon. Lynch led all scorers in the game and helped to spark her team to their third CIAA win of the season. Chowan improves to 3-12 overall and 3-6 in CIAA play.
Both teams got off to a sluggish start with just a combined 16 points at the halfway mark of the first period. Lynch sparked her team's offense over the final ten minutes of the first half and drained a three pointer at the 2:40 mark to give Chowan a 20-17 lead. Bowie State answered on the opposite end of the court after ReVen Smith hit a baseline jumper and cut the CU lead to 20-19. With :20 remaining in the first half, Lynch spotted up for a three pointer and drilled it to give Chowan a 23-19 lead heading into the halftime period.
The Lady Bulldogs scored on back to back possessions to open the second half but Lynch started the Hawks scoring to give them a 25-23 lead at the 18:20 mark.
T'Arra Cutting hit the team's 7th three pointer of the game with 14:59 to play to put her team ahead 33-30.
Both teams battled over the final ten minutes of play but Chowan pulled away behind the solid play of Lynch and teammates
T'Shea Glenn and
Naima Harrington. Both Glenn and Harrington came off the bench to help spread the Hawks lead and go on to the eventual win.
The Hawks shot 44% from the floor and hit eight three pointers in the win. Lynch accounted for three of those baskets while Glenn and
Janelle Murphy each hit for two three pointers. Cutting ended the game with nine points while Glenn and Harrington chipped in nine points and eight points respectively.
For the Lady Bulldogs Jasmine Jacobs scored a team-high 17 points. She also hauled in seven boards. Bria Robinson hit for 16 points and had three steals in the game.
Chowan will host Lincoln University on Wednesday, January 30th in a CIAA North Division match up. BSU will host CIAA North Division foe Virginia State on January 30th in their next match up.
