MURFREESBORO – Victoria Davis nailed a fade away jumper with 0.8 seconds on the clock to give the Saint Augustine's College Lady Falcons a thrilling 65-63 victory over Chowan University on Monday.

CU's Ransheda Jennings tied the game at 63 with just 23 seconds remaining.  Holding for the final shot, the Lady Falcons seemed to have nothing going, but Davis found a seam and lofted a shot over the out-stretched arms of two Chowan defenders.  The shot fell, and Chowan's last second heave fell short.

Davis scored 16 points for SAC (10-5, 5-0 CIAA) on 5-8 shooting.  Keyona Bryant led the Lady Falcons with 21 points and 18 rebounds.

For Chowan (6-9, 1-4 CIAA), Jennings netted 20 points and Janelle Murphy added 15.  Talaya Lynch recorded her second consecutive double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hawks raced out to an early 10-2 lead, connecting on four of their first six shots.  Saint Augustine's fought back and cut the deficit to one with 10:44 to play.  Chowan then answered with a 7-0 run, keyed by one of Murphy's two three-pointers.

SAC again bounced back, eventually tying the game with 3:47 remaining in the first half, and taking the lead with just under two minutes to play.  A Lynch layup sent the Hawks into halftime tied with SAC 27-27.

The Lady Falcons began the second half on an 11-2 run, but Chowan cut that lead to three with 14:23 remaining in the game.  After SAC regained a sizeable lead once again, Chowan went on an 8-0 run to pull within two, 47-45, with 10:26 to play.

Keyona Bryant extended that lead to 13 with a layup at the 4:45 mark, but then the Hawks caught fire.  Chowan drained four of their next six shots as part of a 14-1 run.  With 1:31 to play, the game was tied at 61.  Victoria Davis then put an end to the Hawks' comeback with her late-game heroics.

Saint Augustine's took 20 more shots than did Chowan, thanks to grabbing 26 offensive rebounds.  For the game, SAC out-rebounded Chowan 50 to 42.

Chowan recorded eight blocked shots; three from Lynch and two from CIAA Rookie of the Week Summer Curtis.  Curtis now has at least two blocks in her last 10 games.

Chowan will return to action on Thursday, January 19th when they travel to Livingstone College for a 5:30 tip-off.
