MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University football program is set to host Livingstone College on Thursday night. This will be the season opener for both teams. The Match Up
The Chowan University Hawks open the 2011 season by hosting the Blue Bears of Livingstone College. Last season, the Hawks finished with a 3-7 overall record and went 3-4 in CIAA play. Their 3-3 CIAA North record placed them in a tie for fourth in the division. The 2010 Blue Bears finished 0-11 with a 0-7 CIAA record (0-5 in CIAA South).
The Series
Chowan holds a 2-0 lead in the short series against Livingstone. The Hawks defeated the Blue Bears 42-33 in 2009, and 41-20 in 2008. In the Hawks' 42-33 victory two seasons ago, CJ Westler completed 24 of 38 pass attempts for 352 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran 14 times for 88 yards to lead Chowan.
Robert Holland caught eight balls for 81 yards. For Livingstone, JJ Spates rushed the ball 20 times for 117 yards and a score. Quarterback Steven Williams threw three touchdowns for the Blue Bears.
