Chowan Baseball Falls to Saint Augustine's, Will Face WSSU Later Today

PETERSBURG, VA – Wayne Lewis hit a three run home run to lead Saint Augustine's College past Chowan University in the semifinals of the 2011 CIAA Baseball Tournament.  The Hawks fell 7-2 and will face Winston-Salem State University later today at 2:00pm in the loser's bracket finals.

The Falcons opened up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning behind a Joe Pierce triple.  Ryan Moore closed the scoring gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the first when he drove in Brett Overton with a single.  Saint Augustine's added three runs in the fifth inning off Lewis' home run to take a 5-1 advantage.

Ryan Moore scored in the bottom of the eighth inning off a Colby Wiggins sacrifice fly to bring the score to 5-2.  Saint Augustine's then added two more runs in the ninth to seal the 7-2 victory.

Ryan Moore went 3-4 at the place with one RBI and one run scored.  The winner of the Chowan-Winston-Salem State game will face Saint Augustine's College in the championship game tomorrow, April 23rd.
