MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University baseball team rebounded from a 7-1 loss in game one of Saturday's doubleheader with Saint Augustine's College with a wild 10-9 victory in game two.  The Hawks now stand at 15-14 on the season, and 11-3 in CIAA play.  The Falcons, ranked #10 in the Atlantic Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA), currently owns a 31-14 overall record (21-3 CIAA).
Each team put one run on the board in the first inning in the opener.  A Mike Wallace double put the Falcons up 1-0, but the Hawks responded with a Justin Bagbey single to score Josh Catalano.  Pitching took over from there, as neither team scored again until the fifth inning.
Saint Augustine's added another run in the top of the fifth off a Kevin White single.  The Falcons then erupted for five runs in the top of the seventh inning to put the game out of reach.  
Josh Catalano went 1-1 at the plate for Chowan, scoring the team's only run.  William Ward and Ryan Moore each stole a base.  John DesChamps (3-4) suffered the loss for the Hawks, despite pitching 6.0 solid innings, allowing three earned runs off six hits.
The Hawks' offense found its groove early in the nightcap.  They pounded five hits in the first inning, leading to six runs.  Justin Bagbey crushed a three-run home run and Thomas Bird had an RBI single in the inning.
Adam Capps drove in Justin Bagbey in the home half of the second inning to give Chowan a 7-0 advantage.  
Entering the fifth inning, the Hawks maintained a 7-1 lead.  The Falcons scored four runs in the fifth, however, to cut their deficit to 7-5.  They added two more runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at seven runs apiece.
Saint Augustine's managed four hits in the top of the seventh, leading to two runs scored.  Heading into the bottom of the seventh, the Hawks were suddenly down 9-7.
Josh Catalano came through with a single to score William Ward and Thomas Bird to knot the score at 9-9.  The Falcons stranded three runners in the top of the ninth to leave the door open for Chowan.
The Hawks took advantage.  With two outs, Colby Wiggins scored on a fielding error by Saint Augustine's to cap the crazy finish.  
Justin Bagbey had a team-high three RBI and scored two runs.  Colby Wiggins and Thomas Bird also scored two runs for Chowan.  Ward and Brett Overton tallied three hits each.
Ryan Moore (2-0) earned the win for Chowan, pitching 1.2 innings.  He struck out two and did not allow a run.
The Hawks will take on CIAA foe St. Paul's College tomorrow, April 3rd at Hawkins Field.  First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 12:00 noon.
