CARY, NC – The Chowan University Baseball team continued their hot start in CIAA play with a pair of convincing victories over Saint Augustine's College Monday. The Hawks took game one of the doubleheader 12-0 behind seven strong innings on the mound from John DesChamps. Chowan won the nightcap 9-1 thanks to a three-hit performance by Josh Catalano. Chowan now stands at 6-0 in the CIAA, while the Falcons fall to 15-13 overall, and 12-2 in conference play.

The Hawks' bats came alive in the sixth inning of game one, erupting for seven runs off five hits. Chowan had built a 5-0 cushion entering the frame, and then took the game out of reach in the sixth. Thomas Bird collected two hits and two RBI in the inning, while scoring a run.

Justin Bagbey, Ryan Moore, Adam Capps, and Thomas Bird each had two hits for the Hawks. Moore scored a team-high three runs while Capps drove in three runs. As a team, Chowan garnered 11 hits. DesChamps was stellar in his seven innings on the mound, allowing six hits and striking out four in the shutout.

Chowan's offense did not wait long to strike in game two, opening up an 8-1 lead after three innings. Josh Catalano scored a run in each of the first three innings while collecting two hits. Junior pitcher Brett Garrett took over from that point, holding the Falcons scoreless over the final six innings.

Catalano went 2-5 with three runs scored. Justin Bagbey, Adam Capps, and Colby Wiggins also had two hits for the Hawks in game two. Ryan Moore drove in a team-high two runs. Brett Garrett picked up the win, pitching all seven innings and giving up eight hits while striking out two.

The Hawks will return home this weekend to take on Millersville University on March 11th and 12th, and will host CIAA foe Winston-Salem State University on March 13th. Saint Augustine's will host Paine College on Thursday.
