Box Score MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University Baseball team could not overcome an 11 run fourth inning, as they fell to visiting Millersville University Saturday afternoon 19-3. The Hawks fall to 9-10 on the season while the Marauders improve to 9-3.
Millersville held a slim 2-1 advantage entering the top half of the fourth inning when they exploded for 11 runs. Ryan Chesler and Jeff Heisey hit back-to-back home runs in the inning, which included nine hits. Chowan scored two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth, with RBI from
Jordan Williams and
Brandon Mack.
Millersville added five runs in the seventh inning and one more in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Justin Shockley went 2-4 from the plate for the Hawks and scored two runs.
Brandon Mack led Chowan with 2 RBI. Derek Kline led the Marauders going 4-5 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Derek KIine picked up the win for Millersville after pitching 6.0 innings, giving up one earned run off four hits and striking out seven batters.
Ryan Bradshaw suffered the loss for the Hawks. He pitched 4.0 innings, allowing 12 earned runs off 11 hits and striking out four.
Chowan will be back in action tomorrow as they take on CIAA foe Winston-Salem State University (12-8, 8-2 CIAA). First pitch at Hawkins Field is set for 1:00pm.
