Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO – The Chowan University Softball team fell to 0-6 on the short season following two losses to UNC-Pembroke on Tuesday. The Braves took the first game 8-7, while winning the finale 12-3. UNC-Pembroke improved to 3-1 with the victories.
In the opener, UNC-Pembroke jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning after a grand slam by 1b Lynn Grantham. Chowan pitcher
Christie Wright settled down from there, holding the Braves scoreless over the next five innings. The Hawks cut the score to 4-1 in the bottom of the 4
th before the Braves cut it back open in the top of the 7
th with four runs to make the score 8-1.
In the nightcap, UNC-Pembroke began much like game one. At the end of two, they held an 8-0 lead. They scored four more in the 3
rd to open up a 10-0 cushion. Chowan scored two in the 4
th and one in the 5
th, but it was not enough as the Hawks fell innings.
Megan Wade collected two hits in the losing effort.
Lacey Wildeboer pitched in relief and struck out two over four innings.
