Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 AIKEN, SC - The Chowan Softball team opened the 2011 campaign Saturday with a doubleheader at the Aiken, SC Early Bird Tournament.  In the Hawks' first matchup, they fell to Francis Marion University 5-3 in 10 innings.  Chowan finished the day with a 13-1 defeat to Lander University.

Sophomore Christie Wright pitched all 10 innings against Francis Marion, giving up 5 runs (3 earned) on 11 hits.  She also struck out 10 batters.  Senior Tricia Gorman went 2-3 in the game and walked twice.  She scored one run for the Hawks.  Freshman Liz Sill had two RBI while going 1-3 with a double.  Junior Alex Allen chipped in with a 2-4 day at the plate.

In the nightcap, junior Allie Kolezynski went the distance on the mound, pitching all 7 innings of the contest.  She gave up 13 runs (1 earned) while walking 6 and striking out 4 batters.  Senior Brooke Owen went 1-3 at the plate and drove in the Hawks' only run.  Alex Allen scored the lone run while going 1-2 at the dish.  Liz Sill continued her hot start to her career by going 1-1 at the plate.

Chowan will take on Augusta State University (12:00pm) and North Georgia College and State University (2:00pm) tomorrow to finish the tournament.
