Box Score 2 MURFREESBORO – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a pair of games to visiting East Stroudsburg University on Sunday. ESU won the opener 13-0 and the nightcap 13-2. With the wins, the Warriors improve to 7-0 on the season. Chowan now stands at 1-7 on the year.
East Stroudsburg scored six runs in the second inning to break game one open early. They added at least one run in each of the next four innings en route to the convincing 13-0 victory. Three ESU pitchers combined for a one-hitter.
Thomas Bird got the only Hawk hit in the third inning.
Jeremy Gigliotti picked up the win for the Warriors, giving up one hit and striking out five over 3.0 innings of work.
Josh Barmoy suffered the loss for Chowan. He went 3.1 innings, giving up seven earned runs and recording two strikeouts.
The second inning was once again the key for East Stroudsburg in game two. The Warriors scored six runs off seven hits in the inning. Chowan got on the scoreboard in the home half of the fourth when
Josh Catalano drove in
Ryan Moore. In the sixth,
Brandon Mack scored on a deep fly ball to left field by
Ryan Moore.
Colin Kelly earned the win in game two for ESU. He pitched 4.0 innings, giving up four hits and striking out one.
Brett Garrett suffered the loss for Chowan, giving up six earned runs over 3.0 innings. Next up for Chowan is a pair of weekend doubleheaders against Indiana University (PA). Saturday's and Sunday's first pitches are set for 12:00pm at Hawkins Field. East Stroudsburg will travel to Clearwater, FL to take on Upper Iowa University on March 6
th.
