Hawks Baseball Drops Two to East Stroudsburg University

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan Baseball team dropped a pair of decisions to visiting East Stroudsburg University on Saturday. The Warriors took game one 7-2, and finished the sweep with a 13-2 victory in the nightcap. Chowan falls to 1-5 on the season, while East Stroudsburg remains perfect at 5-0.
 
The Hawks struck first in the opener on an RBI single by Ryan Moore. The Warriors quickly responded with four runs in the top of the third inning behind a pair of RBI from Jake Griesemer. Thomas Bird drove in Ryan Moore in the home half of the sixth to cut the deficit to two runs, but the offense could not complete the comeback.
 
Ryan Moore went 1-2 from the plate with one run scored and one RBI. Josh Catalano went 1-3 with a run scored. Jake Griesemer led ESU, going 2-4 from the dish, driving in two and scoring two. Keith Moyer picked up the win for the Warriors after pitching three innings of no-hit relief. Ryan Bradshaw suffered the loss for Chowan. He pitched six innings, allowing five earned runs and striking out five.
 
In game two, Chowan held the Warrior bats at bay for the first three innings, as the visitors held a 3-0 advantage. The ESU offense then erupted, however, scoring three runs in the fourth and six runs in the fifth inning. Josh Catalano and Justin Shockley drove in the only two Hawks runs in the sixth inning. Catalano finished with a team-high two hits. 
 
Andy Noga earned the win for the Warriors, pitching five innings of shutout baseball. John DesChamps suffered the loss for Chowan. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up 8 hits. The two teams will meet again tomorrow for another doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00pm at Hawkins Field.
