Chowan Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Mount Olive College

MURFREESBORO – The Chowan Softball remained hot Friday afternoon with a two-game sweep of visiting Mount Olive College. Chowan won the first game 3-0 and took the nightcap 10-3. The Hawks have now won four of their last five games and currently own a 4-8 record.   Mount Olive falls to 3-5 on the season following today's action.
 
Christie Wright pitched a dominating opening game, going the distance while giving up only four hits in the shutout victory. Lacey Wildeboer got the Hawks on the board in the home half of the second, scoring on a single by Megan WadeMindy Byrd drove in the final two runs on a single in the third inning. Chowan relied on Wright's arm and stellar defensive play the rest of the way to seal the victory. Lacey Wildeboer and Megan Wade each went 2-3 from the plate in the game.
 
Chowan opened the scoring in game two right away, as Tricia Gorman and Mindy Byrd drove in one run apiece in the bottom of the first.   Mount Olive responded in their half of the second to even the score at two. Chowan then erupted for seven runs in the third inning to break the game open. Lacey Wildeboer had a two-RBI single to lead the way in the inning, as Chowan sent 12 batters to the dish. The Hawks stole four bases and collected seven hits in the inning.
 
Christie Wright again went the distance in game two. She gave up three earned runs and struck out one. Fahren Munro, Tricia Gorman, and Lacey Wildeboer had two RBI apiece. Munro and Alex Allen each scored two runs for Chowan.
 
Chowan returns to the field on Sunday for a doubleheader against Shippensburg University. First pitch is set for 12:00pm. Mount Olive will host Shepherd College on Saturday. A 12:00pm first pitch at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field is scheduled.
