MORROW, GA – The Clayton State University Lakers forced 32 turnovers and took 27 more shots than Chowan did, as they rolled to an 87-45 victory over the Hawks on Friday. #6 Clayton State, the defending Division II National Champions, improves to 5-1 on the season. Chowan falls to 2-5 with the loss.
Clayton State shot 31-76 (40.8%) from the floor while holding Chowan to just 49 shots. The Hawks made 17 of those shots, good for a 34.7% clip. The Lakers scored 35 points off Chowan turnovers and 48 points off the bench.
Talaya Lynch led Chowan with 10 points on 3-9 shooting. She drained all three free throws she took.

Courtney Smith each notched six points. Clayton State placed four players in double figure scoring, led by Keona Dixon's 14.
Chowan started the game shooting just 2-11 from the floor, leading to an early 19-5 deficit. Midway through the first half, though, the Hawks went on a 10-1 run to bring the score to 20-15. Chowan hit three straight shots and went 4-4 from the free throw line during that stretch. For the game, the Hawks shot 10-16 (62.5%) from the charity stripe.
From there, however, it was all Lakers. They quickly rattled off a 15-0 run over the next 4:08 to regain a 20 point lead. The Lakers would enter halftime with a 45-22 advantage.
With 14:50 remaining in the contest, Clayton State opened a 62-28 lead. The Lakers took their largest lead of the evening at the 6:27 mark when a three by Dixon made the score 84-37. Chowan's defense would hold the Lakers to just three points for the rest of the game, however. Clayton State went just 1-5 from the floor in that span and committed four turnovers.
For the game, Chowan forced 17 turnovers, leading to 10 points. Chowan equaled the Lakers with 26 points in the paint.
Janelle Murphy recorded a team high four assists and added five points. Nine different players scored for Chowan.
Summer Curtis grabbed five rebounds, to match Jennings for the team high.
Chowan will next host Barton College on Tuesday, December 6
th at 5:30pm. Those two teams met on November 22
nd, with Barton winning a thrilling game, 72-69.
