Ransheda Jennings had another monster night, scoring 27 points
BOWIE, MD – Ransheda Jennings had another monster game Saturday night as the Chowan Hawks downed the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University 55-45. With the win, the Hawks improve to 6-9 overall and 3-4 in the CIAA (1-0 North). Bowie State falls to 7-7 overall with a 3-4 CIAA clip (0-1 North). Bowie State jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, holding the Hawks without a point until the 16:27 mark of the first half. Shortly after, the Hawks found their groove and went on a 10-0 run. While the offense was certainly clicking, the Chowan defense came to life, keeping the Lady Bulldogs off the scoreboard for over nine minutes. The teams traded baskets late in the first half before Chowan held a slim 23-19 advantage at the half.

Bowie State came out for the second half on fire, hitting their first five shots en route to an early six point lead. Once again, however, the Hawks buckled down and made a run of their own, gaining the lead back at the 10:28 mark of the second half. Throughout the majority of the half, the teams kept the score close. The game seemed up in the air as Chowan held a 41-40 advantage with just under six minutes remaining. Sparked by a pair of Jennings' buckets, the Hawks ended the game on a 14-5 run. Chowan converted on 10-11 free throws down the stretch, helping seal the road victory.

For the game, Jennings notched 27 points and added 6 rebounds. She was 11-15 at the charity stripe. Teammate Talaya Lynch chipped in with eight points and 4 rebounds.  Bowie State was led by Chanita Jordan, who tallied 17 points and 6 rebounds. Jordan also had an effective night at the line, hitting 7-9 free throws. The Lady Bulldogs out-rebounded the Hawks 41-31, but committed 28 turnovers in the loss.

Chowan takes the court again Monday night as they travel to take on the Lady Lions of Lincoln University (PA). Tipoff is set for 5:30pm. Next on the slate for the Bulldogs is a home game against Elizabeth City State University on Monday night, also at 5:30pm.
