Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem State University used 499 yards of offense, including 325 rushing yards, and several Hawks miscues to run to an easy 48-7 win tonight in CIAA gridiron action. The Hawks put up just seven points and 146 yards of offense in the game to pick up their 3rd loss of the season. Chowan miscues accounted for 119 yards on 14 called penalties and the Rams scored 14 points in the first five minutes of the game to shut the door early on the Hawks. WSSU remains undefeated in 2010 at 4-0 while Chowan has yet to pick up a season win at 0-3.
Chowan's lone score came with 3:53 to play in the second quarter when
Elliot Smalls ran one in the endzone for a touchdown.
Joey Gargiulo made good on the PAT to get the Hawks seven on the board. Smalls worked hard for his 82 total rushing yards tonight.
Ryan Simpson got the start under center where he threw for 63 yards on six of 14 completions.
Defensively
Marc McCadden had nine tackles including two sacks and three tackles for a loss. He also had a forced fumble.
Chris Morris also tallied nine tackles and
Leon Eason had four solo tackles and two tackles for a loss.
Chowan will host Virginia State University on Saturday, September 25th in their first home game of the season. WSSU travels to Fayetteville State University next Saturday.
