RALEIGH, NC - The women's basketball team fell to Saint Augustine's College in a CIAA road game tonight. The Hawks fell with a final scored 66-51 after taking a 27-26 lead into halftime. Tayala Lynch put up 18 points in the loss to pace the Hawks but the Lady Falcons hit 53% from the floor and outrebounded Chowan 37-25 in the game. The Hawks fall to 7-12 overall, 5-10 in the league, and 0-4 in the CIAA West Division.
Chowan took a narrow one point lead into halftime but gave up 40 second half points in the loss. Saint Augustine's got up by as many as 23 points in the second half of play. Chowan shot 38% (20-52) from the floor while the Lady Falcons drained 53% (27-51) from the floor. They were paced by Keyona Bryant with a game-high 23 points.
Talaya Lynch was the only player to score in double figures for Chowan with 18 points on the night. She also had three steals and two assists.
Chowan will host Shaw University on Saturday in their next match up. Tip off is slated for 2:00pm at the Helms Center.
