MURFREESBORO - The Chowan University women's basketball team picked up a 60-47 win over UNC-Pembroke this evening to improve to 2-4 on the season. Chowan forced 20 UNC-Pembroke turnovers and converted 20 points off of those miscues to help propel them to the home court win. Chowan put three players in double-figures led by
Ransheda Jennings who dropped 17 points in the win. The Braves fall to 3-4 on the year after tonight's game.
Chowan took a 32-24 lead into halftime and never gave it up over the final period of play. The Hawks shot 35% (22-63) in the game and grabbed 12 offensive rebounds to UNC-P's six offensive boards.
Jennings hit 8-18 from the floor in the game for a team-high 17 points. She also had three assists and two steals to go with five rebounds. Joining Jennings in double-figures was
Talaya Lynch who scored 11 points. Lynch hauled in a team-high nine rebounds while
Brittany Nicholson had 10 points in the win.
For UNC-Pembroke, JaToya Kemp had a game-high 19 points. Briana Stanton scored 10 points and had five rebounds.
Chowan will travel to Felician College on Friday night for a 7:30pm tip off. Friday's game is the first of two road games before returning home to host Johnson C. Smith University in a CIAA crossover match up.
