Box Score

ELIZABETH CITY, NC - Elizabeth City State's Daronte McNeill ran for 290 yards on 11 carries in a 55-14 win over Chowan University today. The Vikings take second place out right in the CIAA's Northern Division after today's win. Chowan struggled to get going offensively in the game and were plagued by turnovers and big plays by the Vikings. ECSU defenders racked up nine sacks against the Hawks.

The Hawks got on the board first in the game after Ryan Simpson hooked up with Elliot Smalls for a 12 yard score. Matt Lucas split the uprights for the point after attempt, which would be the last time Chowan would put up points until late in the fourth quarter. The Vikings scored 34 unanswered points over the next two quarters to take a 34-7 lead into the halftime break. They added three more scores over the second half to put up 55 points. CU's Robert Holland left his wide receiver post to take over for an injured Simpson in the second half. He led the Hawks on a 90 yard drive late in the fourth quarter, capping it off with a two yard touchdown run.

Simpson ended the day with 109 yards after completing 8-13 passes. Holland threw for 81 yards on 5 of 11 passing. He threw an interception and rushed for a score. Eddie Coard caught four passes for 88 yards. Defensively Jason Ampy had eight tackles to lead the defensive unit.

The Hawks will wrap up the year at home next week in the annual Hall of Fame game against Bowie State University. Kick off is slated for 12:00pm.
