MURFREESBORO - The men's soccer team dropped their 2009 opening game 5-0 to Carson-Newman College this afternoon. The Eagles out shot the Hawks 37 to 3 in the match and used four second half goals to shut out the Hawks at home.
The Eagles struck first in the match when Daniel Zitt split two Chowan defenders for a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute of the match. CNC took at 1-0 lead into the half and then added goals in the 58th, two at in 63rd, and then again in the 89th minute to take the 5-0 win.
Josh Cenci started in goal, allowing five goals and getting 16 saves. Brandon Chambers, Chris Riveros, and Jay Rivera accounted for Chowan's three shots in the match.
Chowan will host Coker College on Sunday in a 4:00pm match. The Eagles move to 1-0 while the Hawks fall to 0-1 on the year.
