PEMBROKE, NC - The women's basketball team dropped a 56-46 decision on the road to non-conference foe UNC-Pembroke tonight. The Hawks had trouble getting their offense jump started in the contest as they hit just 33% (20-61) from the floor, including a 3-23 performance from beyond the three point arch. Tonight's loss moves Chowan to 2-4 on the year while UNC-Pembroke improves to 4-3 overall.
The Braves outrebounded the Hawks 42 to 30 and hit nearly 50% of their shots from the floor. They held the visiting Hawks to 19 first half points and kept them at bay in the second half for their fourth win of the season.
Newcomer
Talaya Lynch scored a team-high 11 points in the game. Teammate
Naomi Walters, who had scored in double figures in five straight games, was held to eight points.
"UNC-Pembroke was well-prepared for us tonight," stated sixth season Head Coach
Patrick Mashuda. "It's a tough loss. We have played three games in five days and it showed for us tonight. We will regroup and refocus and get prepared for Johnson C. Smith on Sunday afternoon."
The Hawks will host their first CIAA West Division game on Sunday with the Lady Golden Bulls. Tip off is slated for 2:00pm.
