The Match Up…The Hawks enter today's game coming off their first season win at Livingstone (42-33). The Hawks two career CIAA wins have come against the Blue Bears ('08, '09). The Bears are coming off a 29-28 loss at the hands of Fayetteville State. The Broncos converted a safety in the final minute of regulation to take the upset win.
The Series…Today's game marks the second time in program history that these two teams have met.They met for the first time on 10/18/2008 in Raleigh, NC…Shaw came away with a 68-13 win to lead the series 1-0.

A Year Ago...The Bears posted big numbers last year with a 68-13 win over Chowan in Raleigh. The Bears went on to the CIAA Championship game where they claimed the 2008 CIAA Football Title with a win over Eastern Div. Champ, Elizabeth City State University. The Bears amassed over 600 yards of total offense against the Hawks while holding Chowan to under 300 yards of offense. CJ Westler passed for 344 yards and 1 TD, and rushed for another TD. He hit JJ Spates 4 times out of the backfield for 87 yards. Defensively, Jeremy Bednardz-Gray tallied 10 tackles while Marcus Johnson had 8 tackles in the game.
Players to watch…Westler is the league's top passer, averaging 278 yds a game. He is poised to top the 2,000 yd mark at 1,946 yds to go with 19 TD's, which also leads the CIAA. Westler's top receiver has been Robert Holland, who leads the league in receiving yds and TDs at 96.6 yds/game and 5 receiving TDs. Shaw brings with them the league's top rusher in Raymond Williams (Cleveland, OH). Williams is averaging 101 yds per game and has 10 TDs on the year to lead the league in total points.
