MURFREESBORO - The football team returns to Garrison Stadium after a four-week road stand when they host CIAA Western Division Opponent Fayetteville State University on Saturday. The Hawks, now 0-5, are still hungry for that first when but FSU will be a tough opponent to tackle on Saturday. Kick off for Saturday's game is set for 6:00pm. Live stats, live webcast will be available for this CIAA Western Division match up. Pregame show is set to begin at 5:45pm with Gattis Hodges.
The match up…The Hawks and the Broncos open up with CIAA Western Divisional play tonight. Chowan is coming off a 45-27 loss @ Virginia Union last Saturday while the Broncos are coming off a 25-20 upset loss to Virginia State. The Hawks are hungry for a win in 2009 but it won't come easy as FSU was preseason picked to win the CIAA by the coaches and have some of the top players in the league. Heading into last week's game @ VUU, the Hawks had lost their last two outings by only 8 points, and have been in just about every game thanks in part to the play of QB CJ Westler.
A Year Ago…The Broncos welcomed Chowan to the CIAA with a 60-21 loss in Fayetteville last season. FSU tallied 424 yds of total offense and held the Hawks to 258 total yds. CJ Westler passed for 220 yards and 3 TDs on 17 completions while Greg Palmer had 11 tackles, 4 for a loss. FSU's Bryan Hardy passed for 213 yards and accounted for 4 FSU scores, 3 in the air and 1 on the ground. He hit WR Daryl Barnett 4 times for 84 yds and 2 TDs.
Coaching Match-Up…2nd yr skipper Tim Place is still looking for a win in '09 while 9th yr FSU Head Coach, Kenny Phillips is 2-1 in league play. Place led his team to a 2-8, 1-7 record in '08 while Phillips finished '08 just out of the CIAA championship game at 8-2, 6-1.
