Box Score MURFREESBORO - Alicia McMorris drilled a three pointer just before time ticked off the clock in regulation play to propel her team to a 55-54 win over UNC-Pembroke. McMorris was 5-10 from beyond the three point arch in the game.
The back-and-forth game featured 12 lead changes and 7 ties before the final decision at the buzzer. Chowan took a narrow 24-21 lead into the half and fell behind by as many as 8 points with just over two minutes to play. Joi Hazel pulled the Hawks back within striking distance with a lay up and foul shot conversion while on their next possession Lauryn Perry nailed a three pointer to cut the Braves lead to one point. A quick foul by the Hawks sent UNC-P's Victoria Willis to the line where she hit the back end of a two shot bonus to give her team a 54-52 lead. With :13 on the clock the Hawks took control of the ball and after several attempts to penetrate UNC-P's zone, Monica Beck spotted McMorris who was set up at the three point line.
For Chowan McMorris scored 15 points while Hazel also contributed 15 points. Hazel also had 7 rebounds in the game. AJ O'Bannion was also in double-figures for the Hawks with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Lauryn Perry came off the bench to score 9 points and was 3-4 from beyond the three point arch.
