DOVER, DE - The Hawks dropped to 0-9 on the year after losing 37-3 to Wesley College this afternoon. The #4 nationally ranked Wolverines held Chowan to 195 yards of offense while amassing 465 yards of their own. Wesley remains undefeated at 9-0 after today's win over the visiting Hawks.
After starting the first two games of the season at the quarterback position, Sam Williams took over for an injured Randy Gilbert. Williams led the Hawk's ground attack with 57 yards on 22 carries while also passing for 87 yards on 4 completions.
Cory Cline connected on a 27-yard field goal in the third quarter to get Chowan on the board in the game. The score was set up after the Hawks blocked a Wolverine punt on the Wesley 26-yard line.
James Fox caught four passes for Chowan, getting all 87 yards that Williams passed for in the game. Defensively linebacker Kurt Carlson tallied 7 tackles while Ronnie Fields had 6 tackles.
Chowan will participate in the Shriner's 57th Annual Oyster Bowl next Saturday at Newport News Apprentice School. Chowan will be looking to win their first game of the season against the 6-3 Shipbuilders.
