Hawks Spread Scoring, Roll to 78-66 Win over West Virginia Tech

MURFREESBORO - Joi Hazel scored 22 points to help propel her team to a 78-66 win over West Virginia Tech tonight. Three other Chowan players scored in double figures, including a double-double outing by Keyon Sellers. Sellers netted 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the win. 

The Golden Bears scored after winning the tip off at the start of the game to take a 2-0 lead over Chowan but on the ensuing possession, Chowan's Alicia McMorris drained a three-pointer that gave Chowan a lead that they wouldn't give up. 

Chowan took a 42-34 lead into halftime and added to it throughout the second period, getting up on West Virginia Tech by as many as 19 points. 

The Hawks shot 44% (26-59) from the floor and were 4 of 12 from beyond the three point arch. The Hawks ran the boards, grabbing 56 rebounds to The Golden Bear's 37 while also holding to a 37% (28-75) shooting performance. 

AJ O'Bannion chipped in 12 points and grabbed 6 boards in the win. She also had 4 steals and 2 blocks in the win. Holly Baldwin came off the bench to contribute 11 points and 5 rebounds while McMorris record 9 points and 3 assists. 

The Hawks continue to get production from their line up as eight different players scored points. West Virginia Tech came into the game at 5-0. Orlandrea Moore, the Golden Bears'  top player with 14 points a game, was held to just 7 on the night. Shantrelle Matthews paced WVU-Tech with 14 points off the bench while Kierra Wilkins had 12 points and 3 assists. 

Chowan wins their third game in a row after tonight's victory and improve to 3-1. WVU-Tech falls to 5-1 on the year. Chowan will take off for the Thanksgiving Break and hit the hard court again one week from tonight at St. Andrews Presbyterian College. Tip off is slated for 7:00pm. They will return to the Helms Center on December 5th for the start of a four-game home stand to end the first semester.
