MURFREESBORO – Playing in their final home game of the season the Hawks were shut out 28-0 by Webber International University (FL), dropping them to 0-8 on the year.
Chowan had problems moving the ball in the game and garnered just 70 yards of offense, partly due to QB
Randy Gilbert suffering a game-ending injury early in the second quarter. Webber International balanced their offensive attack and collected 463 yards of offense on 63 plays. The Warriors gained 255 yards on the ground and passed for 208 yards through the air.
After a scoreless first quarter Webber opened the second quarter with a 43-yard interception returned for a touchdown. After a kicking the extra point the Warriors took a 7-0 lead over Chowan with just over eleven minutes to play in the first half. Chowan's defense stepped up to shut down the Warriors offensive threats for the remainder of the second quarter.
Leading 7-0 at halftime, Webber International went on to score touchdowns at the 13:37 and 4:46 marks of the third quarter to get on top of Chowan 21-0. They added their 4th touchdown on their first possession of fourth quarter to go up 28-0. Unable to get anything going on offense, the Hawks fell with a final score of 28-0.
Defensively
Kjell Cordero had 9 tackles, 4 for a loss of 9 yards, and 1 sack while
Shatae McEachin tallied 8 tackles. Safety
Gabe White had 5 tackles, 3 pass break ups, and one interception with a 13-yard return.
Brandon Myrick and
