Football Falls to #1 North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, SC - The Hawks fell to North Greenville this afternoon with a final score of 52-6 dropping them to 0-7 on the season. The Crusaders, who entered today's game as the #1 ranked team in the  NCCAA at 6-2 overall, posted 528 yards of offense on 63 total plays.

NGU's defense held the Hawks to just 6 points in the game and forced 3 Chowan turnovers. Chowan gained 273 yards of offense on 63 plays from scrimmage including 109 yards on the ground.

The Hawks lone score game came early  in the fourth quarter when QB Randy Gilbert punched the ball in from the Crusaders one-yard line, capping off a 17 play, 84-yard drive. The Hawks went for two after the touchdown but failed.

Offensively Spruce Lee led the ground attack with 51 yards on 9 carries while Gilbert passed for 168 yards on 16 of 28 passes completed with 3 interceptions. Gilbert accounted for the Hawks score and rushed for 48 yards in the loss. Sam Williams caught 3 of Gilbert's passes for 63 yards while James Fox accumulated 51 yards receiving on 4 passes.

Defensively Jecol Edwards and Matt Virgil had 8 tackles each, including 6 solo tackles respectively. Chowan falls to 0-7 on the season while NGU improves to 6-2 on the year and will most likely remain the #1 ranked team in the NCCAA this week.

The Hawks have three games remaining on the schedule including Webber International who will come to town next Saturday for the annual Hall of Fame game. They close the season on the road at Wesley College and Newport News Apprentice.
