Box Score MURFREESBORO - The monkey almost came off the back of Chowan's football team's back this afternoon but as they watched seconds ticked off in the fourth quarter, the monkey was still there and even heavier. With sunken hearts the Braves left the field this afternoon after dropping yet another close game to a Dixie Conference opponent. The scoring started at the 13:13 mark when Ferrum QB Phil Hairston scampered 35 yards to the paydirt for a 7-0 lead (Matt Patrick PAT good). Ferrum would score again with 3:12 remaining in the first quarter when Hairston hit Freddie Little from 5 yards out (Matt Patrick PAT good) to make the score 14-0. The Braves defense would step it up and hold Ferrum scoreless for three more quarters. Chowan put their first points on the board when the Braves marched 70 yards down field and
Jawarren Cowles punched it in for the score (
Craig Janney PAT good). The Braves would again score in the second quarter when
Craig Janney connected on a field goal from 33 yards out with 00:30 remaining in the half. It became a battle of defenses in the second half as both teams were held scoreless. With 1:47 seconds to go in the fourth quarter Chowan capitalized off a missed FG by Ferrum to take the ball over on their own 20 yard line. The Braves drove to Ferrum's side of the field but the seconds ticked off the clock before the Braves could hit the paydirt. QB Chris Stodgill threw for 130 yards on 11 completions.
