Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, NC - The Braves fell to 1-4 in the Dixie after losing to Methodist College by one touchdown in Dixie Conference football action this afternoon. The hopes of the Braves spoiling another Homecoming came to and end as the seconds ticked off the clock in the fourth quarter. The Braves would keep the game close with two late scores but could not hold off the offensive attack of Methodist in the third quarter. Methodist drew first blood in the game when Methodist picked up a fumble and returned it 82 yards for the score (Keever PAT good). With 2:50 left in the first quarter, quarterback Chris Stodghill capitolized off a 65-yard drive with a 1 yard keeper for the score and the tie (Janney PAT good). The Monarchs would score twice in the second quarter while the Braves' Graig Janney mustered a 30-yard field goal with 2:36 remaining in the half. The third quarter belonged to the Monarchs as they scored 20 points to the Braves 6. The only score in the third quarter came when tailback Jawarren Cowles hit the paydirt from 45 yards out (Janney PAT failed). The Braves would score twice in the fourth quarter when Stodghill hit Brian Harvell for the score from 16 yards out (two-point conversion good by Edwards). With 3:24 remaining in the game, back-up quarterback Taylor Furlough found Robert Saunders for the final score of the game. The Braves held the Monarchs scoreless in the fourth quarter but it was not enough to bring the win back to Murfreesboro. Brian Harvell broke two school records in the game by catching and an amazing 17 passes for 185 yards and 1 touchdown. Chris Stodghill broke his own completion record by completing 21 of 31 passes for 229 yards and 1 touchdown. Tailback Jawarren Cowles continued his rampage on the ground by gaining 148 yards and scoring 1 touchdown. Derrick Mobley had 10 tackles on defense while Justin Porter had 8. Freshman cornerback James Osbourne had 1 interception on the day.
