Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA - The Braves fell to 0-3 in the Dixie Conference after a 15-21 loss to Christopher Newport in football action this afternoon. In the first defensive series of the game linebacker Gerard Reynolds tracked CNU's quarterback down in the endzone for a safety, giving Chowan first blood. The Braves would keep the momentum in the first quarter when Jawarren Cowles hit the paydirt from two yards out (Janney PAT good). Early in the second quarter CNU pulled the old fumble-ruski play for get their first score when Conaway picked the ball up and rushed 33 yards for the TD. The Captains scored again with 7:16 remaining in the second quarter when QB Danny Cook hooked up with Carlson from 3 yards out (Williams PAT good). In the third quarter, QB Chris Stodghill hit Brian Harvell from 25 yards out to give the Braves the lead 15-14 (2 point conversion failed). CNU scored with 00:21 left in the third to take the lead back when Thornton ran 46 yards up the gut for the touchdown (Williams PAT good). The fourth quarter was a battle of the defenses as no team would score. The Braves defense forced the Captains to punt with 2:41 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. The Braves fell short on a fake punt for a first down and turned the ball over to the Captains. The Braves defense would hold the Captains again, just enough for Chowan to get off one more play with 00:02 seconds remaining in the game. Stodghill fell short on his attempt to run the ball in for the score. Stodghill completed 12 of 31 passes for 174 yards and 1 touchdown. He also led Chowan's rushers with 43 yards. Chowan's leading rusher Jawarren Cowles was held to 40 yards on 19 carries. Brian Harvell had 4 catches for 55 yards and 1 touchdown while Russell Dudley had 3 catches for 47 yards.
