Despite having only ten players, the Chowan women's soccer team earned a second-place finish at the Kim Servedio Tournament hosted by Hood College.
In the opening round, Chowan faced tournament host, Hood College. The Braves came out strong and got on the board when Tiffany Cunin scored off an assist by Kristen Lahm two minutes into the game. Lahm also assisted on the Braves second goal, this one off the foot of Karina DaCosta. Newcomer Lisa Osuch scored the game-winner from about 20 yards out and Lahm added an insurance goal (assited by Osuch) as the Braves advanced to the championship game with a 4-2 victory. Tyran Williams and Lisa Bland played well defensively for the Braves.
Chowan faced Bryn Mawr (PA) College in the championship game. The Braves dominated early in the first half of play, but were unable to find the back of the net. Trailing at the half by two goals, the Braves now had to battle the weather as well. With field conditions continuing to worsen, Lahm found DaCosta on a corner to pull the Braves to within one. Chowan continued to pressure but Bryn Mawr's defense held strong and the Braves fell, 2-1.
Williams was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was joined by DaCosta, Lahm and Cunin on the All-Tournament team. The Braves are in action again on Wednesday when they host CNU at 4:00 pm.
