Murfreesboro, NC – Brian Turner completed 14 of 23 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns as Methodist went to the air to defeat Chowan College, 37-16 in the opener for both teams.
Turner only needed two targets, as William Ray caught nine balls for 172 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Jamaal Williamson had five catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Methodist struck first, scoring on a 44 yard pass play from Turner to Williamson with 12:32 left in the first quarter. Chowan answered back with a nine play, 66 yard drive capped by a 32 yard pass from Chris Dent to Danny Inscoe.
The Monarchs struck back with :48 left in the first quarter when turner found Ray from 52 yards out. The Braves hung tough throughout the first half as Justin Trout connected on a 32 yard field goal to pull Chown with two, at 12-10. Methodist was too much down the stretch however, as they reeled off four more scores in the second half.
Inscoe finished with six catches for 72 yards, while Dent completed 14 of 27 for 156 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
