LaToya Jones enters her fifth season as Head Women's Basketball Coach at Chowan.

During the 2019-2020 season, Jones and staff produced a 6-21 overall record and a 6-16 mark in Conference Carolinas play.  Jones helped produce Mariah Coker to a Conference Carolinas All-Conference Third Team selection, while breaking the school record in career assists and steals.

In 2018-19, Chowan produced a 13-15 overall record and a 9-8 mark in the CIAA.  Jones saw Jada Lee break the school record for career assists with 372 assists.  Leading scorer, Danielle Weldon was named All-CIAA.

During the 2017-18 season, Chowan finished with an impressive 19-9 overall record and a 10-6 mark in the CIAA.  CU finished in a tie for third place in the CIAA Northern Division.  The Hawks would continue to play tough against nationally-ranked opponents, taking the first meeting over the season over the fourth ranked Virginia Union Panthers.  Chowan would be ranked in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional poll for eight weeks during the season, climbing to as high as #7.  The Hawks would appear in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Poll as well.

Seniors, Chantel Roberts and Dhyamond Crenshaw earned All-CIAA honors.  Roberts would pick up NCCISA All-State honors as well as being named CoSIDA Academic All-District.

In her first season as head coach, Jones and company posted a 17-10 overall record and a 10-7 mark in the CIAA.  The Hawks earned the top-seed in the CIAA Northern Division with a 7-3 record in the division.  The Hawks upset Division II National Championship Finalist Virginia Union twice during the season.  VUU was ranked second nationally during both contests.

Jones coached Jordan Payne to an All-CIAA First Team selection and Mariah Coker to CIAA Rookie of the Year honors.  Payne would go on to garner a D2CCA All-Atlantic Regional selection.

Jones inherited a program that posted a program-best 20-9 overall record in 2015-16.  The Hawks made their second appearance in the CIAA Tournament semi-finals this past season while earning their first-ever NCAA Tournament appearance with an at-large bid.

Prior to her arrival at Chowan, Jones spent three season as an assistant coach with the Spartans of UNC Greensboro in the Division I ranks.  During her time with the Spartans, Jones was promoted to Director of Basketball Operations in her final season.  Jones orchestrated alumni outreach, recruiting, and community service initiatives for the program in that capacity, while working primarily with post players. 

Before moving to UNC Greensboro, started her collegiate coaching career at her alma mater, Gardner-Webb, as an assistant coach.  During the 2010-11 season, Jones helped aid the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a 23-11 record on their way to capturing the Big South Conference Tournament Championship for the first time in program history and made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Tournament.

Jones began her coaching career at Providence Day School in Charlotte, N.C.  There, she led the Chargers to two state championship appearances including a state title in 2010. 

The Atlanta, Ga. native earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Gardner-Webb in 2008.  As a student-athlete for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, Jones was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Academic list four times.  Jones guided the squad to their first-ever Atlantic Sun Tournament finals appearance in 2006.

Jones received her master's degree in Sports Administration from Liberty in 2019.

LaToya and husband, Alex, reside in the Murfreesboro area with their son Jeremiah, and daughter Allie.
