Taylor Furlough enters his 12th season at the helm of the Chowan baseball program and 15th overall after spending three years as an assistant coach from 2008-11.

During the 2022 season, Chowan posted an 8-33 overall record and 3-27 mark in Conference Carolinas action.  On March 25, 2022, Furlough became the all-time NCAA wins leader collecting his 191st victory in a 10-8 win over Southern Wesleyan.  Furlough helped Shane Rademacher and Caleb Peterson earn Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week honors.  Off the field, Patrick Krack was named a finalist for the Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne Award.

In 2021, the Hawks went 6-25 overall and 3-25 in conference play.  During the 2020 season, Furlough and the Hawks had their season halted with a 6-16 overall record.

The first season in Conference Carolinas, Furlough led the Hawks to their first Conference Carolinas Tournament appearance after posting a 13-25-1 overall record and an 8-17 record in league play.  Furlough coached Marquise Lanier to a Co-Conference Carolinas Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection.  Lanier picked up NCBWA First Team All-Region and D2CCA First Team All-Region selections.

In 2018, Chowan finished with a 21-18-1 overall record as an independent member. Eight players were honored by the Independent College Athletic Association.  Trent Brosdahl, Harry Markotay, Robert Williams, Nick Rose, and Josh Vincent earned First Team All-ICAA honors.  Julian Lopez, Cody Smith, and Vinny Puma garnered Second Team honors.  Markotay went on to be named to the NCCSIA All-State team.

During the 2017 season, the Hawks appeared in the CIAA Championship title game in back-to-back seasons.  Chowan finished the season 27-25 overall.  Furlough was named CIAA Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.  10 players earned All-CIAA honors, including two First Team honors and a Rookie of the Year selection in Corey Fago.  Furlough coached his first D2CCA All-American in Zack Cooper.

In 2016, the Hawks clinched the CIAA Championship title for the first time in school program history and advanced to the NCAA DII Atlantic Regional Tournament. Five players earned All-CIAA First Team, while one earned All-CIAA Second Team. Four players received CIAA-All Tournament Team honors.

Furlough recorded his 100th collegiate coaching win on April 8, 2016 in the opening win of the series against Lincoln (Pa.) as the Hawks won 27-7.

The Hawks finished the 2015 season with a 21-20 overall record and 9-7 finish in CIAA play.  Three players were selected for the All-CIAA Team and two for the CIAA All-Tournament Team.

Furlough saw his first player drafted as Tyler Burden was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 20th round.  Burden was named NCBWA All-Region First Team.  Evan Hart received ABCA/Rawlings NCAA DII Second Team All-Region Honors.

During the 2014 campaign, the Hawks finished 18-26 overall and 15-5 finish in CIAA play.  The Hawks garnered eight CIAA All-Conference honors, highlighted by Tanner Woods earning Rookie of the Year honors.

In his second season as head coach (2013), Furlough guided the Hawks to a 21-27 overall record, and second place finish at the CIAA Championship.  Under Furlough’s direction, the Hawks had two players named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team, a CIAA Second Team selection, and four players named to the CIAA All-Tournament Team.

Furlough took over head coaching duties during the 2012 season and led the Hawks to a 25-23 record.

In 2011, Furlough as an assistant coach, the Hawks recorded their sixth straight winning season.  Furlough was in charge of the pitching staff which produced Brett Garrett, Ryan Moore and John DesChamps as All-CIAA selections.

During the 2008 season, Furlough’s first season as assistant coach, the Hawks posted their most successful season in program history with a 36-20 record.  Chowan were crowned NCCAA South Region Champions and finished fourth at the NCCAA National Championships.

Prior to his baseball coaching career, Furlough spent two seasons (2006 and 2007) on the Chowan Football staff as an offensive backs and wide receivers coach.  Taylor was a member of the Chowan Football program as a quarterback in 2005.

Before entering the coaching world, Furlough pitched for the then Braves for former head coach Aaron Carroll.  As part of the pitching staff in 2005, he helped the Hawks to an appearance at the NCCAA World Series.  That same season, Furlough posted a team-low 1.20 ERA with a 4-1 record and five saves.

Furlough is a native of Columbia, North Carolina.  He received his bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Chowan in 2005.  He is married to Stephanie Myane Furlough, a 2008 Chowan graduate.  The Furlough’s reside in the Murfreesboro area with their children, Lennox, Landry, and Lincoln.
