CARY, N.C.- The Chowan Men's and Women's Cross Country team concluded their regular season competition by placing 15th and 14th respectively at the 2018 HBCU Challenge on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
For the Men:
Duke took home the team title with 26 points followed by Morehouse and Florida Atlantic in third.
Trey Simons from Morehouse ran 24:57.4 to win the field on the day.
Jalen Thomas crossed the line for the Hawks at 32:23.0. Thomas averaged a 6:30 minute mile to place 71st overall.
Junior, Kevin Taylor finished the 8k in 32:41.2 to place 75th overall, while George Kattan recorded a 33:44.7 course time averaging a 6:47 minute mile.
Brendon Sellars and Adi Kaliakperov also competed for the Hawks in the HBCU Challenge.
For the Women:
Florida Atlantic secured first place as a team with 30 points while North Carolina A&T took home second place. UNC Pembroke finished the invitational in third.
Florida Atlantic's Mikaela Jonsson ran 18:48.3 to lead the field in the 5k.
Pacing the Blue and White was Lela Knight was posted a 22:53.6 5k time, averaging a 7:21 minute mile.
Pushing each other throughout the race was Elizabeth Stokes, Deja King and Genesis Oliver. Stokes posted a 26:21.5 on the day while King and Genesis crossed the finish line in 26:58.7 and 27:21.6 respectively.
Maressa Caceres rounded out the team scoring for the Hawks.

Chowan will gear up to compete in the 2018 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Cross Country Conference Championships in Salem, Va. Oct 25th. The women are set to go off at 12pm, followed by the men at 1:30pm
