Trey Morgan

Trey Morgan enters his second season with the Chowan University baseball program after joining the Hawks as an assistant coach in August 2025 ahead of the 2026 season.

During his first season on staff, Morgan played an important role in the development of the Hawks’ offensive approach and overall player growth while helping mentor several emerging contributors throughout the roster. His experience as a former collegiate two-way player provided valuable insight and leadership for Chowan’s student-athletes both on and off the field.

Morgan helped guide Ahmaad Goldson to D2CCA All-Southeast Region honors as both a pitcher and utility player following one of the top all-around campaigns in the conference. Goldson led the Hawks in RBIs (29), home runs (4), and strikeouts on the mound (46) while serving as one of the program’s leaders throughout the season.

Morgan also assisted in the development of a promising freshman class that established itself as a foundation for the future of the program. Jordan Turner paced the Hawks with a .421 batting average and 40 hits during his freshman campaign, while Derrick Davis provided strong defensive play in the outfield with a .982 fielding percentage. Jacob Howard additionally emerged as a dependable presence at first base for the Hawks.

Prior to Chowan, Morgan graduated from Virginia Military Institute in 2024 following a standout five-year career with the Keydets as a versatile two-way player, competing both in the outfield and on the mound.

Morgan left his mark on the VMI baseball program by setting the school record for career games played (214) while ranking second in career at-bats (773). He also established the program’s longest on-base streak at 42 games and finished among the top 10 in several categories including total bases (410), hits (245), stolen bases (63), runs scored (160), walks (109), triples (7), and fielding percentage (.984).

His accomplishments on the field earned multiple Southern Conference honors throughout his career. Morgan was named Preseason All-SoCon First Team Outfielder before earning All-Conference Second Team recognition after batting .327 during the 2024 season. He additionally earned All-SoCon Second Team honors in 2023 and was selected to the All-SoCon Freshman Team in 2021.

Beyond his collegiate experience, Morgan competed in the Coastal Plain League with the Peninsula Pilots, playing under his father, Hank Morgan, the league’s all-time winningest coach. His grandfather, Henry Morgan, also owns the franchise, continuing the family’s deep connection to the game of baseball.

In 2024, Morgan was selected to the CPL Select Team that competed against the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in Cary, North Carolina.
