Trey Morgan joined the Chowan University baseball staff as an assistant coach in August 2025, ahead of the 2026 season.
Prior to Chowan, Morgan graduated from the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in 2023. He enjoyed a standout five-year career with the Keydets as a versatile two-way player, competing both in the outfield and on the mound. Morgan left his mark on the program by setting the school record for most career games played (214) while ranking second in career at-bats (773). He also set the VMI record for the longest on-base streak at 42 games and sits among the top 10 in several other categories, including total bases (410), hits (245), stolen bases (63), runs scored (160), walks (109), triples (7), and fielding percentage (.984).
Morgan’s on-field excellence earned him multiple Southern Conference honors. He was named Preseason All-SoCon First-Team Outfielder and went on to earn All-Conference Second-Team recognition after posting a .327 batting average in 2024. He also earned All-SoCon Second-Team honors in 2023 and was selected as an All-SoCon Freshman in 2021.
Beyond VMI, Morgan gained valuable experience competing in the Coastal Plain League for the Peninsula Pilots, managed by his father, Hank Morgan, the league’s all-time winningest coach. Trey’s grandfather, Henry Morgan, owns the franchise, extending the family’s deep ties to the game. In 2024, Trey was selected to the CPL Select Team to compete against the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team in Cary, N.C.
