Mike Ordnung enters his eleventh year as Director of Golf for Chowan.
The 2024-25 season produced the lowest team scoring average in program history. The Hawks collected a first place victory at the Apprentice School Tri-Match, and collected three second place wins at Chestnut Hill, the CIAA Northern Division tournament, and the CIAA Southern Division tournament. At the end of the season, Mika Buchholtz, was honored with the Conference Carolinas Elite 23 Award, which recognizes the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average at the championship site. Further, the Hawks placed six players on Conference Carolinas Presidential Spring Honor Roll.
During the 2023-24 campaign, Chowan finished second a the Glenn Heath Memorial Tournament that wrapped up regular season play. Also in the 2024 Conference Carolinas Golf Championship, Chowan finished on a high note shooting the lowest postseason round in program history.
In the 2018-19 season, Chowan men’s golf would finish second at the CIAA Northern Division and fourth at the CIAA Championships. Gaby Rivera-Garcia, Inecia Rolle, and L’leah Laing were named Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference on the women’s side.
During the 2017-18 campaign, Chowan finished second in the CIAA Northern Division and fourth in the CIAA Championship. Christian Fleetwood would earn All-CIAA honors. L’leah Laing, Gaby Rivera-Garcia and Chelsea Rose would earn Conference Carolinas Academic All-Conference honors.
The 2016-17 season produced much of the same for Chowan in terms of success as the Hawks Men’s team captured their second consecutive CIAA Championship title and the second trip to the NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Tournament. Jordan Francis would claim the CIAA Championship Medalist with a total of 145 and be named to the CIAA All-Tournament Team. Francis, along with Billy Britton was named All-CIAA.
On the women’s side, Chowan would earn their first-ever Conference Carolinas All-Conference selection with Inecia Rolle earning a Third Team selection.
In the 2015-2016 season, Ordnung guided the men’s team to capturing the CIAA Championship title for the first time in school program history, allowing them to make an NCAA Atlantic/East Regional Tournament appearance for the first time as well. The Hawks earned their third straight CIAA Northern Division Tournament title and for the team’s success Ordnung was named CIAA Coach of the Year.
During the 2014-2015 season, Ordnung guided the Chowan University men's golf team to program history by capturing first place honors at the CIAA Southern Division Tournament. The Hawks' victory was Chowan's second conference-affiliated tournament win in program history (CIAA Northern, 4/7/2013). They earned their second CIAA sanctioned tournament victory of the season by winning the CIAA Northern. The Chowan University men's golf team was the CIAA Regular Season Champions and finished runner-up at the CIAA Championship, earning Chowan their third runner-up finish in as many years. Two team members earned All-CIAA and CIAA All-Tournament honors as a result of their performances.
Ordnung is currently the general manager of Valley Pine Country Club in Lasker, N.C. and has held the position since 2006. There, he is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the facility, inventory control, conducting private golf lessons, clinics and tournaments while supervising the staff. Additionally, he generates revenue and expands sales by initiating and monitoring the effectiveness of monthly promotions, maintains and expands the country club’s membership base and making responsible management decisions.
Prior to working at Valley Pine, Ordnung was the Head Golf Professional at Club Corp: The Currituck Club for four years. He developed and oversaw the club’s 3.2 million dollar budget through financial forecasts, revenue game plans and inventory control. He was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Pro Shop, the 15-member golf operations staff and conducted lessons, clinics and tournaments.
The Jackson, N.C. native is a 2002 graduate of Campbell University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. He is the son of current men’s and women's assistant golf coach Ellen Ordnung.
Ordnung is married to Laurie Bryant Ordnung. They have two children, son, Preston, and daughter, Presley.
