Harrison Black joins the Chowan University men’s basketball program as a Graduate Assistant Coach for the 2026-27 season.
Black brings both collegiate playing experience and a strong background in player development to the Hawks coaching staff. A native of Texas, Black recently completed his collegiate career at Mary Baldwin University, where he competed as a member of the men’s basketball program earning his Bachelor's of Arts degree in Exercise Science in May 2026.
Prior to Mary Baldwin, Black spent the 2023-24 season at Austin Peay State University, where he was also a member of the men’s basketball program. Throughout his collegiate career, he balanced the demands of athletics and academics while developing leadership, communication, and team-building skills both on and off the court.
In addition to his playing experience, Black has worked extensively with youth athletics and player development. He served as a Youth Coach with Houston Explosive Fitness, where he led and organized strength, conditioning, and agility training sessions while mentoring young athletes and promoting teamwork and discipline. Black also gained experience working at Upside Sportsplex in Alvin, Texas, assisting with sports leagues, events, and daily facility operations.
Black’s coaching background also includes youth coaching stops at Austin Peay State University and Northwestern State University, where he helped instruct and mentor young athletes through camps and skill development activities.
With a passion for basketball development and mentorship, Black will be a great addition the Chowan men’s basketball coaching staff under Head Coach and Director of Athletics, Rob Burke.
