Megan Smith enters her first season with the Chowan University athletic department and the Hawks' Women's Lacrosse program as the assistant coach.
Prior to coming to Chowan, Smith served as the head coach at Converse College in Spartanburg, S.C. for one season.  Smith guided the team to a 5-11 record including three wins in Conference Carolinas play.  Under Smith's direction, the Valkyries were named NCAA DII Statistical Champion in Ground Balls per Game.  Smith coached Laura Starkes to a Conference Carolinas All-Conference Second Team selection.  Starkes scored 57 goals and dished out 23 assists on the season.
During the 2016-17 season, the Valkyries produced the second most goals in program history (183), a program record 85 assists and a program record 495 ground balls.
Before entering into the collegiate coaching ranks, Smith was a four-year member of the Limestone College Saints program as a goalkeeper. Â Smith helped the Saints to four straight Conference Carolinas Regular Season Titles, three Conference Carolinas Tournament Championships, three NCAA DII Tournament appearances and a NCAA DII National Finalist appearance. Â During the 2014 season, Smith was named IWLCA Division II Community Awareness Award Recipient.
Smith helped with the Saints Lacrosse Club with player development since 2013 and the Tomahawk Lacrosse Club during the summer of 2013 and 2014.
Megan graduated from Limestone College in May of 2015 with a Bachelors degree in Psychology and a minor in Coaching.
