James Cameron enters his third season as Head Coach of the Chowan Men's and Women's Swimming Programs.
In the 2024-25 season, Cameron led the Hawks to major athletic and academic achievements. Notably, Dimitrije Markovic, was named the Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Week after the team's season opener at home. Aleksei Belolipetski, earned his third gold medal at the Conference Carolinas Championships finals, while Cabrera set a new personal record in the 50-yard freestyle, surpassing his previous school record. The Hawks would place 10 on Conference Carolinas Presidential Spring Honor Roll, with Dimitrije Markovic and Elizabeth Waltz earning highest individual GPA for the 2024-25 school year.
During the 2023-24 season, Cameron led the Men's swim team to a 1-7 overall record and the Women's swim team to a 0-9 overall record. The hawks made an appearance in the Conference Carolinas Swimming Championship and finished with three individual event Championships, one relay championship, four relay all-conference, and seven individual all-conference selections. Men's swimmer, Aleksei Belolipetskii was named Conference Carolinas Swimmer of the Year.
"It means the world to me to be back at Chowan," stated Cameron.  "After graduating, it was a dream of mine to become a head coach of an NCAA program.  Now, I'm living that dream at my alma mater.  I could not be more excited to be here."
James returns after spending two seasons as the Assistant Swim Coach at Blue Valley High School.  He also served as a Pool Service Technician in the Kansas City area.
The Overland, Kansas native was a four-year member of the men's swimming program.  He was one of the program's inaugural recruiting and graduating class.  During his time in the pool, Cameron helped the program to their first-ever All-Conference selection picking up a Third Team All-Conference nod in the 200 Medley Relay.
Individually, Cameron ranks in the top-10 in program history in the 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Back.  He still holds the school record in the 100 Back.
James received his bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Chowan in 2022.
