Lee Williams enters his fifth season as assistant coach of the men’s soccer team at Chowan.
Williams helped lead the team to an 11-5-2 overall record during the 2017 season as the Hawks competed in the Conference Carolinas for their first DII conference affiliation. Chowan finished fourth in the league standings with a 5-3-2 record. The team finished with a 9-0-1 overall record at home and notched six Conference Carolinas All-Conference selections.
During the 2016 season, Williams assisted the squad to a 9-6-2 record after posting an 11-7-5 record the previous season.
In the 2015 campaign the Hawks won the NCCAA South Region Championship and went unbeaten at the NCCAA National Championships in Kissimmee, Fla. grabbing two draws. Williams helped propel Terell Williamson to a NCCAA South Region Player of the Year selection, NCCAA All-American selection, and D2CCA All-Atlantic Region nod.
In his first season with the Hawks, Chowan finished with a program best 12 wins and host to the NCCAA South Region Tournament.
Before teaming up with the Hawks, Williams gained experience in the spring of 2013 serving as an assistant coach at Lees-McRae and the Cape Fear Soccer Academy in Wilmington, N.C.
Williams started his collegiate coaching career in 2013 as an assistant coach at UNC Wilmington. During that season, the Seahawks finished with a 9-6-2 record and a runner-up finish in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). The Seahawks earned strong non-conference victories over North Carolina, Duke and Ohio State.
The Liverpool, England native competed as a student-athlete at Appalachian State University as a defender. During his playing career, Williams started 64 matches logging every minute of action in those contests for the Mountaineers including notching two assists his junior season. Williams, team captain, led the squad to three Southern Conference Team of the Year awards and earned various individual awards including: All-American status, All-Tournament Team recognition twice, and Defensive Most Valuable Player at the Coastal Carolina/Adidas Tournament in 2011. He was also on the short list for the Herman Trophy, college soccer’s most prestigious individual award.
During his time at Appalachian State, Williams worked with High Country Soccer as a volunteer coach.
Williams graduated from Appalachian State with a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion in 2013. Following graduation, Williams pursued professional soccer through Stockport County where he played against some of England’s top clubs for two years. While in England, Williams achieved an FA Level II coaching badge and a BTEC National Certificate in Sporting Excellence.
