Leon Eason enters his sixth season with the Hawks and first as the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator after spending the previous five seasons on the Chowan Football staff as the wide receivers coach and strength coach.
During the 2021 season, Eason helped Imeek Watkins to be named Don Hansen Second Team All-American, D2CCA All-Region First Team, All-CIAA First Team Wide Receiver after producing 68 receptions for 886 yards and 10 touchdowns. Laurence King was named All-CIAA Second Team with 51 receptions for 658 yards and eight touchdowns.
Eason returns to his alma mater after several stints in the high school ranks. Eason was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Northampton County High School from 2012-14. In his first season, the Jaguars went 11-3 and making an appearance in the third round of the NCHSAA playoffs. Eason helped Keion Crossen (Garysburg, N.C.) to be named Elite Defensive Backs Football Camp MVP hosted by NFL’s Arizona Cardinals Head Coach, Steve Wilks.
Following his stint at NCHS, Eason was the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Hertford County High School. During his two years with the Bears, Eason helped the program to an 18-8 overall record and two appearances in the NCHSAA playoffs.
Prior to returning to Chowan, Eason was an assistant varsity coach and head JV coach at Lawrence Academy. Eason has also worked at the Ahoskie Recreation Center along with being a health and physical education instructor in the Hertford County School system.
Eason graduated from Chowan in 2011 with a bachelors’ degree in Physical Education. During his four years with the Hawks as a defensive back, Eason accumulated 122 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, eight fumble recoveries and three interceptions.
