ATHLETIC OPERATIONS-COVID19
Note: This document is subject to change based on NCAA, Conference Carolinas, CIAA, University, and Department Policies as needed
HAWKS ATHLETIC CENTER
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S BASKETBALL, VOLLEYBALL, ACROBATICS & TUMBLING
- Fans are encouraged to follow all home games live via blueframe Hawks stream and all of CU athletics social media pages. Broadcasts will be made available for most of CU athletics home events in 2021
- Face masks must be worn at all times by everyone in the gym including the following, but not limited to:
- Essential personnel
- Game day security,
- Game and event operations staff,
- Athletic communications staff,
- Sports medicine staff, team managers,
- Coaching staff,
- Officials,
- Operations and athletic communications table crew.
- No concessions will be offered at home games for the spring of 2021.
- All visiting teams will be assigned a team host who will exchange game day protocols and direct team and support staff to assigned team areas.
- Per conference regulations, all officials will be required to test for covid19 prior to calling any game.
- Only assigned team personnel are permitted in any team area (benches, scorers table, locker rooms, training room or any other area where teams gather on game day)
- Cheerleaders must social distance and wear masks during competition while also cheering from designated areas. Limitations on those who can cheer at one time will be assigned. In addition, a waiting queue will be made available for those cheerleaders who are switching designations mid game.
- No visiting cheerleaders will be permitted at the hawks athletic center for 2021
- No band will be permitted to play at any contest in 2021
- Proper sanitization procedures of the Hawks Athletic Center will be in place prior to game, during game, and in between games of a doubleheader.
- At the conclusion of the women's game in a basketball doubleheader, 30:00 minutes will be placed on the clock. 10:00 minutes will be used to sanitize the bench, scoring, and designated player areas. at 20:00, the men's team may begin warming up on the floor. pre-game announcements will begin at 00:00, with tipoff following.
- No pre-game handshakes or post-game handshakes with officials or opposing teams.
- Student-athletes and coaches should always remain socially distanced from officials.
- Pre-game meetings require masks and social distancing
- Pre-game starting line-ups will be announced for teams from the sideline, in front of designated bench areas.
- All bench personnel must wear masks, including coaches and student-athletes who are not in the game. Time will be allowed for athletes coming out of the game for water and catching of breath before masks are required.
- Competing teams should not swap benches at any time during the contest. opponents teams should not sit in or hang out in the opponents bench area/bench seating
- In any sport in which student-athletes may participate in warm-ups during halftime of another event (e.g. basketball), masks must be worn during this warm-up segment.
- Training room availability on game days is not available for visiting teams. Taping tables and ice will be made available along with water, ice, and cups.
RECRUIT AND RECRUIT FAMILY VISITS ON GAME DAYS
For events in the Hawks Athletic Center (Acrobatics & Tumbling, Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, and Volleyball), recruits and families are permitted to attend games following the guidelines listed below:
- Social distancing AND masking by all parties (coaching staff, recruits, family members, any player interaction),
- Recruits and families must sit with accompanying family members in designated areas, 12 feet apart,
- Recruits will not be permitted to visit locker rooms during or after a game, scorers table, team areas, bench area, the court/floor, training room, or other areas in which team gatherings occur.
*For events in the Bynum Brown Aquatic Center (Men's & Women's Swimming), at this time no spectators will be permitted, recruit visits should be limited and space should be considered. If recruits and families are visiting on meet days, please check with the sport administrator to approve space for seating.
For events in CU athletics' outdoor facilities (Baseball, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Men's and Women's Golf, Men's & Women's Lacrosse, Men's & Women's Soccer, Softball, Men's & Women's Tennis), recruits and families are permitted to attend games following the guidelines listed below:
- Social distancing AND masking by all parties (coaching staff, recruits, family members, any player interaction),
- Recruits and families must sit with accompanying family members in designated areas, 12 feet apart,
- Recruits will not be permitted to visit locker rooms pre or post game, scorers table, team areas, bench area, the court/floor, training room, or other areas in which team gatherings occur,
- Recruits and families MUST sit in designated areas during games that are pre-marked for recruits and families,
- Restroom facilities will be available for recruits and families in the Hawks Athletic Center for baseball and softball,
- Restroom facilities will be available for recruits and families in the Vincent Center (exterior South facing) for men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, and if applicable, men's and women's cross country).
MEDIA, PRESS ROW & PRESS BOX (All campus locations that apply)
- Only essential game day staff (operations & athletic communications) will be permitted in any press box or on any press row,
- Masking is required at all times,
- Social distancing is required when applicable,
- Communication and contact with opposing teams or essential personnel will be limited and based on need and/or requirements,
- Visiting media, photographers, will not be permitted to attend any athletic event or have access to press row or press boxes during the month of January. This will be re-evaluated based on COVID19 data by the COVID19 Athletics Task Force for the remaining months of the athletic season in 2021,
- Public Address announcers will minimize in game announcements,
- No pre-game, halftime, or post game interviews will be conducted with any member of the media or athletics communication staff on game days unless conducted electronically (Zoom, Google meet, Cell phone, etc),
- Digital pregame materials will be utilized to eliminate handouts where grouping and extra touches and contacts may occur,
- No hospitality will be provided for press row,
MEN'S AND WOMEN'S SWIMMING
For events in the Bynum Brown Aquatic Center (Men's & Women's Swimming), at this time no spectators will be permitted for the entire 2021 season, recruit visits should be limited and space should be considered.
OUTDOOR COMPETITION
(Baseball, Men's & Women's Lacrosse, Men's & Women's Soccer,Softball, Men's & Women's Tennis)
- Baseball & Softball
- NO VISITING SPECTATORS! NO GENERAL ADMISSION!
- All home games will be played at Hawkins Field (baseball) and Hawks Field (softball) (weather permitting)
- Limited seating will be made available to Chowan University students, faculty, and staff who have completed Campus Clear. Assigned seating with social distancing regulations will be in place.
- Each current CHOWAN student-athlete (baseball & softball) will be permitted two family members. A pass list will be created for each home game/game date and sent to CHOWAN head coaches for updated.
- All pass list (CHOWAN ONLY) spectators will be temperature checked prior to entrance.
- Fans are encouraged to bring their own seating (i.e. lawn chairs, folding chairs) and sit in designated seating areas that are pre-marked on match days.
- Limited seating will be available in bleachers for pass list guests (CHOWAN ONLY)
- All pass list (CHOWAN ONLY) fans must adhere to designated seating arrangements.
- Bathroom facilities will be available at the HAC. Bathrooms at the field will only be accessible for team use.
- Signs will be posted with entrances and exits clearly marked.
- Concessions will not be open during the 2021 season.
- Tailgating will not be permitted at this time.
- All spectators will be required to adhere to the seating policies, including all social distancing guidelines.
- All fans must wear face coverings (masks or neck gaiters)
- If fans choose to watch games (at own risk of foul balls) from any campus parking lot, and spectators must remain in the vehicle or within a few feet of the vehicle and furthermore, groups may not gather in excess of the traveling party.
- All Conference Carolinas COVID19 regulations are in place for the 2021 season.
- If fans choose to watch games (at own risk of foul balls) from any campus parking lot, and spectators must remain in the vehicle or within a few feet of the vehicle and furthermore, groups may not gather in excess of the traveling party.
- Men's & Women's Lacrosse
- NO VISITING SPECTATORS! NO GENERAL ADMISSION!
- All home matches will be played at Garrison Stadium (weather permitting)
- Limited seating will be made available to Chowan University students, faculty, and staff who have completed Campus Clear. Assigned seating with social distancing regulations will be in place.
- All pass list spectators will be temperature checked prior to entrance.
- Each current CHOWAN lacrosse student-athlete (men's & women's) will be permitted two family members. A pass list will be created for each home match.
- Signs will be posted with entrances and exits clearly marked.
- Concessions will not be open during the 2021 season.
- Tailgating will not be permitted at this time.
- Family members of current student-athletes cannot provide meals to student-athletes unless it is pre-packaged and can be grab and go style. This protocol will be evaluated as the season progresses.
- All spectators will be required to adhere to the seating policies, including all social distancing guidelines.
- All fans must wear face coverings (masks or neck gaiters)
- No visiting team spectators will be permitted, this also includes family, friends, relatives of visiting team members.
- If fans choose to watch games (at own risk of misfired lacrosse balls) from any campus parking lot, and spectators must remain in the vehicle or within a few feet of the vehicle and furthermore, groups may not gather in excess of the traveling party.
- Fans may not gather at the perimeter fence line of Garrison Stadium.
- No fans outside of Chowan University will be permitted inside the stadium. GENERAL ADMISSION AND VISITING FANS WILL NOT BE PERMITTED ENTRANCE AT THIS TIME
- Men's & Women's Soccer
- NO VISITING SPECTATORS! NO GENERAL ADMISSION!
- All home matches will be played at Vincent Field (weather permitting)
- Limited seating will be made available to Chowan University students, faculty, and staff who have completed Campus Clear. Assigned seating with social distancing regulations will be in place.
- Each current CHOWAN soccer student-athlete (men's & women's) will be permitted two family members. A pass list will be created for each home match.
- All CHOWAN spectators will be temperature checked prior to entrance.
- Fans (CHOWAN PASS LIST ONLY) are encouraged to bring their own seating and sit in designated seating areas that are pre-marked on match days.
- Limited seating will be available in bleachers.
- All PASS LIST ONLY fans must adhere to designated seating arrangements.
- Signs will be posted with entrances and exits clearly marked.

- Limited seating will be made available to Chowan University students, faculty, and staff who have completed Campus Clear. Assigned seating with social distancing regulations will be in place.
- Each current tennis student-athlete (men's & women's) will be permitted two family members. A pass list will be created for each home match.
- All spectators will be temperature checked prior to entrance.
- Fans are encouraged to bring their own seating and sit in designated seating areas that are pre-marked on match days.
- All fans must adhere to designated seating arrangements.
- Signs will be posted with entrances and exits clearly marked.

CU ATHLETICS TEAM TRAVEL
When traveling or making travel arrangements for your teams, the following recommendations need to be followed.
Conference Carolinas members schools have provided information regarding COVID19 friendly housing and eating options while visiting member schools campuses. Below is the link:

- Limit travel parties when opportunities are available
- Travel must be done wearing face masks (buses and vans)
- Masks are required for travel on buses and vans
- Student-athletes, coaches wipe down touch points in hotel prior to unpacking
- Phones, light switches, door knobs, drawer pulls, TV remote, outlet covers, etc.
- Materials will be provided for this process prior to departure from campus
- Limit student-athletes to 2 per hotel room, or 3 with a rollaway bed
- Charters-following CDC guidelines regarding sanitization of buses
- Enterprise-sanitation guidelines
- Check sanitation and cleanliness ratings online before making reservations with any hotel for overnight trips
- When possible pre-order meals for pick up with the cafe and with restaurants along route traveling to avoid entering restaurants with large groups
- Designate one person on road trips to wash uniforms with gloves and masks if applicable.
