MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan men's soccer team dropped a tough league rival match against Francis Marion University on Saturday night with a final of 3-2. The Chowan and FMU rivalry stems from both team's successes within the league over the last several seasons. Saturday night's match up showcased some of the best talent in the league between the rivaled teams. Chowan's Martino Lalli and Owen Sweeney netted goals in the game while keeper Lucas Kibrya played brilliantly in the frame with 12 total saves.
The Hawks got off 19 shots in the match, 13 of which were on goal. Ken Naito and Owen Sweeney each had four shots on goal.

The Hawks powered off 19 total shots in the match while the back line played gritty, coming up with several key stops late in the match.
Chowan got behind in the 25' when FMU's Lucas Vila scored on a penalty kick. Martino Lalli knotted the match at 1-1 with a header far post set up by Andre Camargo in the 36'. Pressing the Patriot defense, CU's Owen Sweeney slipped past two defenders, causing a turnover, and quickly capitalizing with a far post score and a 2-1 Chowan lead.
After playing evenly for the next thirty five minutes, the Patriots evened the match in the 78' with a David Guevara score. FMU would score again in the 84' to take the eventual 3-2 win.
