MURFREESBORO, N.C. –The Chowan University men's soccer team put together a commanding all-around performance Wednesday evening, earning an 8-0 shutout win over Barton at Hawks Soccer Field.
The Hawks controlled the pace from the start to finish, maintaining 62 percent of the possession while seven different players found the back of the net. Chowan also recorded five assists in the victory.
Clayton Verdin opened the scoring in the 16th minute, finishing a pass from Owen Sweeney to give the Hawks an early advantage. Sweeney followed with a goal of his own at the 23:21 mark off an assist from Ken Naito. Andre Camargo added to the lead just before halftime, finding the back of the net at 41:46 off a pass from Sean Jacobs to send Chowan into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
The Hawks continued their offensive production, turning up the momentum even more in the second half. Robbie Deighan opened the scoring after the break at 47:37, with Camargo providing the assist. Camargo then added his second goal of the match less than five minutes later to extend Chowan's lead to 5-0.
Naito recorded the first goal of his collegiate career in the 62nd minute before Shoma Fujikawa followed with his first collegiate goal at 66:38. Thomas Mills capped the scoring in the 86th minute off an assist from Henry Jorge-Garcia to secure the 8-0 victory.

Chowan finished the match with 34 total shots, placing 15 on goal. The Hawks controlled the offensive opportunities throughout the opening half, outshooting Barton 21-1 before adding 13 more attempts in the second half. Chowan also earned eight corner kicks while holding the Bulldogs without a corner.
Camargo led the Hawks with two goals and an assist while recording six shots, including three on goal. Naito, Deighan, and Mills each finished with three shots and two on goal while adding a goal apiece. Verdin and Sweeney each recorded three shots with one on goal to go along with their respective goals.
Henry Kohel, Martino Lalli and Fujikawa each added two shots, with Fujikawa placing one on goal for his first collegiate score. Demarion McCray and Bradley Williams also recorded two shots apiece. Thomas Alvarez and Brandon Hill each added a shot, while Jacobs recorded a shot on goal and an assist.
Lucas Kibrya started in goal for the Hawks and played the opening 64:35, recording one save. Alexis Enriquez took over for the final 25:25 and added two saves as the pair combined for Chowan's 8-0 shutout.
