MURFREESBORO, N.C. -  The Chowan University flag football team closed out its home schedule with a matchup against the University of Mount Olive on Monday afternoon at Garrison Stadium. The contest also served as Senior Day, honoring graduating senior Maya James for her dedication and contributions to the program. The Hawks found the end zone three times, scoring five more points than in the first match up with the Trojans.

Nevaeh Higdon threw for 132 yards, completing 19 passes with one touchdown, while also adding a seven-yard rushing score. Kiara Arguello led the receiving corps with 11 catches for 70 yards, including a long of 28 yards. Maya James added 58 rushing yards with a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Defensively, Higdon led the Hawks with 13 tackles, including 12 solo stops. Arguello followed closely with 11 tackles (10 solo), while Zyian Heyligar recorded five tackles (four solo) and Dusabe Uwera added four solo stops. Kiara Lopez and Maya James each contributed two tackles, while Tara Darden and Jacelyn Hammock recorded one apiece.

Heyligar and Lopez each tallied two pass breakups, with Higdon adding one along with an interception. James closed out her Senior Day with two interceptions, returning them for a total of 21 yards.

UP NEXT

Chowan will travel to Mars Hill University for a pair of neutral-site contests on April 10th. The Hawks will face King University at 12:30 PM before taking on Ferrum College at 4:30 PM to close out the regular season.
