MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women's soccer team earned their first victory of the season with a 2-0 win over conference opponent Barton on Wednesday evening at Hawks Field. After a scoreless first half, the Hawks came alive in the second to secure the victory. With the result, Chowan improves to 1-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in league play, while Barton falls to 1-3-0 on the year and 0-1-0 in the conference.

The Hawks kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard in the first half, thanks to a strong performance from goalkeeper Kylee Smith, who turned away four shots in the opening 10 minutes. Smith added two more saves after the break to finish with six total, securing the shutout against Barton.
Chowan broke through at 56:30 when Riley Donnelly converted off a headed corner kick to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Donnelly finished the night with two shots, both on target. The Hawks doubled their advantage at 88:07 as Laura Hulme buried a penalty kick to make it 2-0. Hulme also recorded two shots, while Amy Cotton and Lily Harrison added three attempts apiece, with Harrison putting one on goal.
