CU Women's Soccer Earns #6 Seed After Closing Out Regular Season against FMU

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan University women's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday evening with a competitive match against Francis Marion University. The Hawks defense held strong through the first half, keeping the Patriots off the board to send the game into halftime scoreless. Francis Marion found the net in the second half to take the 1-0 decision and secure the top seed in the conference standings.

With the result, Chowan closes the regular season at 7-8-1 overall and 7-5-1 in Conference Carolinas play, earning the #6 seed in the upcoming Conference Carolinas Championship and finishing third in the east division.

The Hawks maintained an aggressive presence on the offensive end, matching Francis Marion with 15 total shots and recording five on target. Abigail Simon led the attack with five attempts, while Riley Donnelly and Adriana Lightfoot each tallied three shots and one on goal. Laura Hulme, Destiny Makanjuola, Amy Cotton, and Maya Schofield each added a shot to round out Chowan's offensive efforts.

On the defensive side, the Hawks applied steady pressure throughout the match, disrupting the Patriots offense and limiting their opportunities in the attacking third. Chowan's back line consistently cleared threats and regained possession to push the ball back into the offensive zone.

Gracie Ross played the full 90 minutes in goal, recording six saves to hold Francis Marion to just one score on the night.
